Would you like to offer free shipping as a perk for your subscribers? This is now possible in both our legacy checkout setup and our Shopify Native checkout integration. This article will go over how to set up free shipping for subscriptions when using the Shopify Native checkout.
Shopify setup
In Shopify, we must set up a shipping discount for the checkout order. This ensures that subscribers don't pay for the checkout order.
💡 If you would like to charge the first (checkout) order and offer free recurring orders, you can skip this section and go to the Firmhouse setup section.
Create a shipping discount code in Shopify
In your Shopify admin board, click on "Create new discount" and select the Free shipping type.
Configure your free automatic shipping discount to be applied to the areas/countries which you want it to be used in. Most importantly, make sure the discount method is Automatic discount and the selected Purchase type is Subscription.
Next, you can set up:
Minimum purchase requirements. Select "No minimum requirements" if all subscribers should get free shipping. If you'd like to impose a rule for a minimum order value/quantity of items, you can configure that here.
Recurring payments for subscriptions. Select "Discount applies to all recurring payments" to apply the shipping discount for all subscribers, on recurring orders as well (applicable to Shopify native subs)
Combinations. Select which discount combinations should be possible with the free shipping discounts.
Firmhouse setup
Once you configure the shipping discount at checkout, it's time to ensure the recurring orders for SEPA subscriptions are also overridden with free shipping. This is done via the Firmhouse portal.
Step 1: Ask our team to enable the feature for you
To get started, please reach out to our team so they can make sure the shipping override feature is available to you.
Step 2: Ensure your app permissions are up to date
Enabling the price override feature might make require additional access to your Shopify store. Make sure our app has the latest permissions in the Firmhouse platform, Apps>Shopify.
This is step is needed to ensure that we can create these single usage discount codes for free shipping under the hood.
Step 3: Set up a shipping threshold
Navigate to Settings>Shipping. Enable the checkbox so that Shopify shipping rates are used and that the free shipping threshold for it is set to zero for free shipping for all subscribers.
💡 If you'd like to configure free shipping over a specific threshold for subscriptions, use your threshold value here instead of 0.
Once done with the above, you should be good to go! 🎉
